Courageous

Two weekends ago Husband and I spent Saturday evening at our new church.  They were having a church-wide viewing of the movie Courageous, that would kick off several weeks of themed messages on Sunday mornings and bible studies / small groups.  If you haven't seen the movie you most definitely should!  Husband and I don't have children of our own yet, but it really made us think about the type of parents we want to be when we do decide to have children.

In other church news, we officially placed our membership at Northside Community Church a few Sundays ago.  They are currently meeting in a shopping center, but will be moving into an actual church building within the next few months.  We are excited to be a part of the transition! We will also be taking Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University.  I've heard a lot of good things about it, so I can't wait to get started!

Long Time, No Talk!

Wow!  It's been a really long time since I've written anything down, but I think it's time to get started again so that I can remember all the things that are happening in my life.

Since it's been a year since I've written I'll quickly recap what's been going on (in pictures!)--
I graduated from UNC Chapel Hill in May.  Go Tarheels!
I got hired full time at Schneider Electric.  I was hired into a position that wasn't my favorite, but I was moved into the position that I interned for in October.  It's really challenging some days, but I like it!
I got married to KOTR in June.
Husband and I bought our first home in Wake Forest, NC in November.

Husband and I have a lot lined up for 2012.  I really hope to blog constantly so that we'll be able to look back at the year and marvel at all we've done!!

Progress.

It seems like everyone is talking about their New Year's resolutions and all this talk has got me thinking about my own resolutions.  To be honest, I don't really make resolutions--by February I forget what I promised myself I would try to improve.

2011 is going to be about moving forward: I begin my last semester of college, I begin the search for a job, I graduate from college, I move out of my college apartment--leaving behind 3 of the best roommates I could have ever asked for, and most importantly I'm getting married!  And it's hard to believe that all those things are going to happen before July!

This year I've decided that rather than make a resolution, I'm going to choose something to focus on this year.

Progress.

I want to focus on progress in these areas:
  • Prepping myself to be the best wife I can be.
  • Money management.
  • My job search and ultimately my career.
  • My health.
  • My faith.
Right now I'm finding it really easy to get discouraged.  I'm a huge planner and right now it feels like I can't plan for much.  KOTR and I have no idea where we'll be living after our wedding and I have no idea if I'll get a job.  Those two things are proving to be extremely stressful.  I'm hoping that by focusing on progress I will be able to focus on the steps that I'm taking to get to where I ultimately want to be.  With a some hard work and faith I just need to trust that everything will work out!

2011 is going to bring so many new and exciting things.  I want to make sure that I focus on moving forward and bettering myself this year!

new developments in the dance marathon world.

as i said, come into my dreams has a very significant meaning.
it was perhaps the most memorable song that was played at the 2009 dance marathon--which just happens to be the first marathon i actually participated in.

two weeks the application for a position on the overall committee were sent out to all previous committee members. since i had only been a committee member for one year, i didn't think i was ready to be an overall chair, so i wasn't even thinking about applying. i had planned on waiting until the applications for subchair positions came out.

that all changed when i got an email from the current operations chair encouraging me to apply for an overall committee position. i decided to step outside my comfort zone and apply, and i'm so glad i did because....

I GOT IT!!

i'm so thankful for the opportunity to be so involved with dance marathon! the work has already started. the applications for subchairs were sent out this morning and we'll be interviewing for those positions next week. so wish me luck!

you can read more about the marathon here.

and i finally got my name in the daily tar heel!! i'm on page 3!! [can you tell that i'm a little too excited about that??]

i hope this blog will be a great way of documenting my experiences as i get ready for the marathon. i think it will be extra special to go back and read through after it is all said and done.

new semester.

i've been mia for quite a while, but in my own defense i've been a little busy.
the spring semester started almost three weeks ago and i'm finally getting into the swing of things. [took me long enough...i know]

my tuesday/thursdays are killer. i have class from 8 until 1:20 and again at 3:30 until 4:45. on tuesdays i work until 10. i make up for it though because i only have one class on monday/wednesday (at 2:00) and no class on friday! the one thing that i HATE about my schedule is the fact that i work from 9:00 until midnight on wednesday nights and then i have to wake up at 7:00 on thursday mornings. needless to say i am tuckered out by the time is thursday night rolls around.

i would consider myself very lucky because i really enjoy the majority of my classes. even though we're only three weeks in i've really been challenged to think outside the box. i'll give y'all a brief insight on some enlightening things i've learned so far:

PWAD 350--National and International Security
  • who doesn't want to learn about what kind of threat the christmas day underwear bomber was??
COMM 450--Media and Popular Culture
  • so fun! every class we talk about different artifacts presented to Americans on a daily basis [like facebook, blogs, mtv, etc.]
  • i've learned that i like Tim Tebow even less than i thought [which i will go in detail about in a later post]
  • we are forced to think about certain things in a certain manner by 'the big bad media'
COMM 224--Gender Communication
  • there is a difference between sex and gender
  • it isn't fair to judge someone that may view their sexuality differently than you do, they are people too. [yes i realize that may be a little controversial, but shouldn't we keep in mind that the Bible says to 'love thy neighbor'??
HIST 151--Western Civilization
  • when i come up with something that i have learned and actually enjoyed learning about i'll let y'all know
HIST 457--French Revolution
  • same goes for this one.
  • [i would enjoy the class a lot more if a socially awkward girl that interrupts EVERYTHING the prof says wasn't in there]
promise i'll be better about updating.

First Time For Everything!

Ah! How scary!
I've finally decided to enter the world of blogging!
I've always been a fan of Facebook, but I've found it's not really a great way of keeping up with all the people that I'm close to. We'll see how this goes!
