Progress.

It seems like everyone is talking about their New Year's resolutions and all this talk has got me thinking about my own resolutions.  To be honest, I don't really make resolutions--by February I forget what I promised myself I would try to improve.

2011 is going to be about moving forward: I begin my last semester of college, I begin the search for a job, I graduate from college, I move out of my college apartment--leaving behind 3 of the best roommates I could have ever asked for, and most importantly I'm getting married!  And it's hard to believe that all those things are going to happen before July!

This year I've decided that rather than make a resolution, I'm going to choose something to focus on this year.

Progress.

I want to focus on progress in these areas:
  • Prepping myself to be the best wife I can be.
  • Money management.
  • My job search and ultimately my career.
  • My health.
  • My faith.
Right now I'm finding it really easy to get discouraged.  I'm a huge planner and right now it feels like I can't plan for much.  KOTR and I have no idea where we'll be living after our wedding and I have no idea if I'll get a job.  Those two things are proving to be extremely stressful.  I'm hoping that by focusing on progress I will be able to focus on the steps that I'm taking to get to where I ultimately want to be.  With a some hard work and faith I just need to trust that everything will work out!

2011 is going to bring so many new and exciting things.  I want to make sure that I focus on moving forward and bettering myself this year!

i need a break.

i've been studying all day and right now i want to rip my eyeballs out bc they are hurting from looking at the computer screen for the last 6 hours. [i guess blogging isn't really the best way to fix this problem]

i need to refocus bc my mind is in a million different places right now. [i know blogging is a great fix for that!]

i will be so darn happy when tomorrow at 4:45 rolls around. my week will finally be over and i'll be able to do something that had begun to feel foreign to me: sleep. for those of you that know me, you know that i love to sleep. kotr says he has never met anyone that can sleep for as long as i do, and he's not the only person that's ever told me that.

the reason i haven't had much sleep is because all carolina professors are trying to make spring break seem as far away as possible even though it starts friday afternoon i've had what feels like a million midterms this week. i'll be taking my last one tomorrow at 8am. i'm not too worried about it, but i guess we'll just have to wait and see how it goes.

kotr will be coming on friday afternoon!! he typically comes down on thursday afternoons, but he was lucky enough to get a long-term substitute position in a 6th grade science class. [he told me he gave out lunch detentions today and i couldn't help but laugh when i pictured him actually trying to be mean.]

for spring break i had originally planned to go to the beach and work at medieval times. that didn't go as planned, so now i'll be going home with kotr for a week. i'm a little worried bc his family has never had to endure me for more than a couple of days at a time! wish me luck!!!

okay, i guess i've stalled long enough......................

......back to studying. :-(

the tim tebow explanation.

as i was listing my classes for this semester, i told y'all that i wasn't tim tebow's biggest fan.

i acknowledge the fact that he was a great college football quarterback and i admire him for being so deeply grounded in his faith. i think his ability to stay to true to his values and beliefs says a lot about a young man that is constantly in the spotlight.

BUT i don't necessarily agree with his decision to appear in an advertisement during the Super Bowl.

it is rumored that tebow and his mother will appear in an ad for focus on the family, a non-profit agency. that same advertisement is also rumored to be an anti-abortion ad in which tebow's mother will give a brief description of her fifth pregnancy--apparently while on mission work she got very ill and doctors advised her to abort the pregnancy. she chose to keep the child and within a few months....tim tebow was born.

you might have the same question as i did when i first heard about this little situation: where the heck did a non-profit get $3 million to pay for a 30 second commercial during the Super Bowl?!?!?! well, lucky for you, i have the answer. private donors financed the project.

regardless of my opinion on the abortion debate i think it is simply atrocious that such an issue is being brought to light during the Super Bowl. i believe that each side of the debate should be presented when discussing such a matter, but the main reason i believe the commercial is such a terrible idea is $MONEY$.

i think it's wonderful that a few rich country club goers have tons of money to throw around, but i think they could have used their money in better ways. focus on the family's mission statement is: "Focus on the Family is a global non-profit Christian organization with a vision for healing brokenness in families, communities and societies worldwide through Christ. The purpose of the ministry is to strengthen, defend and celebrate the institution of the traditional family and to highlight the unique and irreplaceable role that it plays in God’s larger story of redemption." couldn't those private donors have put their money somewhere where it would directly benefit broken families? couldn't they have helped to finance marriage counseling for couples that want to hold their marriages together and would like to have outside guidance, but simply can't afford to seek that guidance???? or even counseling teenagers and helping them make the right decisions during those oh-so-awkward high school years??? focus on the family should rethink their decision and do more to directly influence individuals.

i'm sure there's a lot more that could be said about this, but i've said everything that i feel is most important....so i'll get off my soapbox now.

a little less than the best.

isn't it funny how you start something and have all these great ambitions and then it never seems to work out like you'd planned?

....well that's how this whole blogging thing has been for me!

i started out thinking this would be a great way to keep up with my family members that aren't on Fbook, but if they depended solely on this blog for updates about my life, they'd think i have fallen off the face of the earth.

my apologies.

once chirstmas break begins, i'm going to really get in to the swing of this!!
